the dutchess and the duke

30 Jan

Here’s a little diddy called “Scorpio” by The Dutchess and The Duke, a modern Americana duo out of Seattle. It’s a beautiful song, very chill. I absolutely love her voice and how they harmonize. Plus, there’s a baby in a guitar case. How adorable is that?

Scorpio is off the album “Sunset/Sunrise.” You can download it at iTunes

Rebecca Woolf of Girl’s Gone Child recently posted a video tutorial on 1960s eye makeup. The video features makeup artist Josie Maran, who has her own line of organic cosmetics. I was inspired and decided to try out the lesson. Why? Because it’s fun to have Mod eyes when you pick up your daughter from school.

Watch the video and try it out. Who says you need to save dolled-up eyes for date night?

Here’s a pic of me, post video tutorial, looking inappropriately fancy in my yoga clothes.

Annie Clark

Annie Clark plays under the name St. Vincent. She trained at Berklee before playing with The Polyphonic Spree and Sufjan Stevens.

This video of Annie covering The Beatles “I Dig a Pony” sucked me right in. This is the kind of musicianship our daughters need to see.

Download St. Vincent at iTunes.

traveling solo is good for the soul-o.

Last weekend, I flew from Atlanta to Los Angeles to be in a wedding. The wedding was for one of my best friends, who has lived in LA for a decade now. This was my first time visiting her, since I’m usually too lazy, broke, or pregnant to travel. But, this was a special occasion, and I didn’t want to miss it. Plus, I knew I’d get some good facebook photos out of it, and that’s one of my main goals at the moment. I traveled solo and came home with a renewed best friendship, a healthy perspective on my creative life, a broken shoe, and a handful of new friendships with some incredibly talented west coasties.
