I’ve had Pat Benatar on the brain, lately. Probably due to my bff sending me a video of herself singing “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” last weekend via text. Believe me, you take drunk texting to a whole new level when video is involved. She Mariah Carey’d that shit.
I won’t post her rendition here (I do try to respect my friends’ and family’s privacy a little), but trust me when I say it was one of the best texts I’ve ever received. I say one of the best only because I also recently received an accidental photo text of a voluptuous woman in her hot pink underwear. I had to write her back lest she think her lover was ignoring her. And now, we are best friends. Not really, but I can’t bring myself to delete that text.
So, back to Patti. Pat Benatar is like the Wonder Woman of pop singers. She’s so badass and yet still feminine and vulnerable. She may not have written most of her hits, but damn if she doesn’t deliver them with gusto. Who can’t relate to songs about youth rebellion and love gone wrong? Even as a kid of the 80s, I knew she was a force of nature. I actually saw PB live about 10 years ago in Virginia Beach. She played a free outdoor show at the ocean front. She’s still got it. A total hottie with a great voice.
Ms. Benatar is actually Mrs. Giraldo. She’s married to her guitarist, Neil Giraldo, and they have two daughters, Haley and Hana. She’s got a memoir coming out June 15 called Between a Heart and a Rock Place. I will definitely be reading it, and let you know if it’s any good.
Patti is playing in Atlanta on July 1 in Chastain Park with Reo Speedwagon. You know, the band behind the hits “Keep on Loving You” and “Can’t Stop this Feeling.” So, if you go, remember to bring a lighter for those ballads.
That is so funny that you wrote about her and went to that show – my sister is a TOTAL Pat Benatar fan – went to the free show and to the PAID show at the Amphitheater. She is like a Benatar groupie… which cracks me the hell up.
