about

Hi there. I’m Jaimie, aka jaimes. I’m also called mama by at least two people I like to call my little muses. I’m one of those hyper-creatives dabbling in way too many projects, namely writing, playing music, and making videos with less-than professional equipment. I’m working on being a better visual artist, but as my daughter says, “Daddy’s a way better drawer than you.”

The point of Jaimes is twofold: to help everyday moms get their creative projects off the backburner and to encourage a creative family life. It’s tough to balance a creative life with parenthood, but it’s not impossible. The site profiles moms who are artists and musicians and provides how-to articles on music, visual arts, and crafts. I also cover events in the Atlanta area, such as concerts, plays, and the hundreds of festivals that take place in Atlanta. And I chronicle my own creative efforts in the midst of parenthood.

When I’m not writing, crafting with my kids, or doing my so-called domestic duties, I’m playing music. A lot. I’m a guitarist in a band with another neighborhood mama, and I play guitar/drums with my husband, Saejin. Oh, and I have a side-project called KATATAK that’s more of a movement than a band. You can read about my obsession with drums at Tom Tom Magazine.

I also teach private guitar lessons to kids and adults in Atlanta. Contact me if you’d like to learn more about my approach to teaching and when and where lessons are available.

Other than that, I live in an amazing neighborhood in Atlanta, take care of my kids, travel, do yoga, read a lot, and watch a healthy mix of quality television and less-than-quality reality shows. I also volunteer with Girls’ Rock Camp Atlanta. It’s a wonderful life, except when my kids are fighting, which is about every 10 minutes.

Take care and thanks for reading!
