guarding the moon: a mother’s first year

Guarding the Moon is a memoir about Francesca Lia Block’s first year as a mother. It is thoughtful, detailed, and emotionally honest. Block is poetic and fanciful, but her story is deeply lodged in reality. That’s what I love about this book, the way it dances between truth and magic, sacrifice and love, terror and awe, selflessness and total fulfillment.

Regretsy is the hilarious blog of arts and crafts gone terribly wrong, posted daily for our smug amusement. The book is a collection of the best (worst?) items posted on the blog. Here’s hoping your art friends have a sense of humor. Mine do: thank heavens to regretsy.

Throwing Muses were a great influence on me as a punk rock girl, and Kristin Hersh continues to inspire with her solo career and her band, 50 Foot Wave.

Who Does She Think She Is? is an amazing documentary that profiles the lives of five mama artists. This House Party Kit would be great for a art moms group or a get-together with your favorite mom friends. The kit includes the DVD, a movie poster, 10 invitations and 20 discussion cards.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is the funniest show on television. If you agree, we can still be friends. If you think it’s funny, but not the best show on TV, we can still be facebook friends, but don’t expect me to come to your baby shower. If you don’t think it’s funny at all, you are dead to me.

Finally some porn women will actually get off on. This hilarious book features hot guys doing the domestic hoochie coo. It’s full of diaper changes and hot vacuum shots with captions like “Why don’t you let me change the baby while you take a nap?” Great gift for a baby shower or new mom.

Oh, how I love Audrey. She gave flat-chested girls a reason to be proud, and I will forever be grateful! This new hardcover book features over 600 magazine covers of the ever graceful Audrey Hepburn.

I’m on the hunt for kid drum kits under $200 for my 4 year old son. My kids destroyed the first one we bought them. It was a little too let’s pretend for my little animals. This kids drum set by GP-50 looks to be a good step-up from the toy kits, but not as expensive as the top quality junior kits. Ages 3-7.

My kids are half Korean and half Irish, which means they will excel either at math or drinking Guinness. We’re not sure yet. The Korean word for mom is ommah, which is what you see written on this cute necklace. This one is for all my Korean mamas and those of us whose baby daddys are Korean.
