Born May 26, 1877, Isadora lived as she danced, a free spirit unbound by tradition in both her personal and professional worlds. She breathed life into the rigid practice of traditional ballet, inspiring artists and poets alike, and most notably creating the modern dance movement. Her children, Deirdre and Patrick, both drowned, and she later lost an unnamed baby boy who died within hours of birth. Isadora’s dancing reputation was tainted by financial troubles, romance scandals, and cumulated in her unusual death. While riding in an open-topped car in France, her flowing scarf became entangled in the spokes of the wheel and rear axel, throwing her from the car and nearly beheading her.

“My motto – sans limites.”
